With sweaty hot summers, frigid winters and plenty of mosquitos Winnipeg tends to not be on most people's "must visit" list. But once you look past the surface, Winnipeg is a charming & vibrant city with a wonderful culture. In my humble opinion, summertime is definitely the best time of the year to visit the prairies! Sure, you might have to fight off a few mosquitos, but with so many amazing festivals and outdoor events it really is worth a visit!
Today's post takes us to the Fort Garry Hotel in downtown Winnipeg.

I love the old world charm of the building with its grand ballrooms and elegant facade. But my favourite part of the Fort Garry Hotel is the spa hidden on it's tenth floor. Ten Spa is without a doubt one of my favourite spots in the entire city to relax and spend an day. (Yes, I'm one of those people who will linger for 2 hours after a treatment to read magazines and snack on the delicious gluten-free blueberry muffins!)
While I love to book massages at Ten Spa (a couples massage at Ten is our anniversary tradition!) my advice for first-timers is to schedule time at their hamam.
If you have never experienced a hamam, or Turkish bath before you don't know what you are missing! A friend of mine originally recommended the Ten Spa hamam to me, but the first time I booked a treatment I was a little bit skeptical. Basically the concept is you lay on a hot marble slab while an attendant pours water over your body... but I promise you it is the most amazing and relaxing thing in the world! The treatment seriously makes you feel like a Turkish princess.
Please do yourself a favour and go experience this! You will thank me later!

I've stayed at the Fort Garry Hotel with my husband before (hello romantic staycation!) but just recently the hotel hosted a getaway where a few local bloggers got to experience their "unplugged" package for the first time. I had so much fun reconnecting with Shayna (from A Pop of Colour) & Monique (from Style Hunter Fox), as well as meeting Susie (from Winnipeg Mom) for the first time. Together we spent the weekend doing hot yoga, eating delicious food and relaxing at the spa.
After experiencing it for myself, I would definitely recommend trying the unplugged package at the Fort Garry Hotel. The price is super reasonable ($189/per person) for everything that is included: a delicious dinner, a fitness class at Yoga Public, one night's stay, a hamam treatment and the chance to spend all day at Ten Spa. Oh, and it also includes a super yummy breakfast buffet with everything your heart could possibly desire and complimentary parking (which just makes life so much easier when you don’t have to worry about moving your car downtown!). It's seriously such a perfect way to spend a romantic weekend or enjoy some time with your girlfriends!
I hope you enjoyed today's post! Would you ever consider a trip to Winnipeg? Let me know in the comments!
Disclaimer: This post is NOT sponsored, but the Fort Garry Hotel did graciously secure my stay during the unplugged blogger event. As always, today's blog post represents my genuine opinion & recommendations! I hope you get a chance to try the unplugged package for yourselves!
